WHO mengesyorkan 2 strategi imunisasi utama untuk pencegahan rabies manusia:
Posting pendedahan pasca (PEP) yang termasuk mencuci luka yang luas dan menyeluruh di tapak pendedahan rabies, bersama-sama dengan pentadbiran rabies immunoglobulin (rig) jika ditunjukkan, dan pentadbiran kursus beberapa dos vaksin rabies;
Pra-pendedahan Profilaksis (PrEP) yang merupakan pentadbiran beberapa dos vaksin rabies kepada populasi berisiko tinggi sebelum terdedah kepada rabies.
Bagi kedua-dua PEP dan PrEP, vaksin boleh ditadbir oleh laluan intra-dermal (ID) atau intra-otot (IM). BioShoot adalah jadual lima dos dan harus diberikan laluan intra-otot (IM).
